Community Builders

Community is who we are at Friedman's Home Improvement.

Whether it's providing free sandbags during floods, or supporting our team members in helping to rebuild a senior citizen's home, Friedman's is a vital contributor to our northern California community.

Our donations of time and energy concentrate on four key needs:  education, affordable housing, hunger, and emergency services.

We go the extra mile in both donations and volunteer support for hundreds of activities every year.  These are just a few of the many projects we've been a part of:

Organizations & Projects:

Celebrate Community
Formed by The Press Democrat and local business leaders to promote positive change and help people in need through non-profit organizations. As part of this program Friedman’s offers donated advertising space to local non-profits and charities to advertise or promote their organization.

Schools Plus
An all-volunteer group of Santa Rosa citizens whose mission is funding sports, music, art, drama, and other enrichment programs for students in the greater Santa Rosa area. Friedman’s supports both the Schools Plus Telethon and hosts the Annual Friedman’s Home Improvement Golf Tournament benefiting Schools Plus.

Hands Across the County
A monthly service outreach of volunteers coordinated by the Volunteer Center of Sonoma County. Community volunteers gather to provide hands-on labor for schools and other local non-profits. Friedman’s is the corporate sponsor of the program and our Team Members volunteer during their workdays.

Rebuilding Together
Provides needed repairs at no cost to low-income homeowners, including seniors, persons with disabilities, and families with children.  The goal is to provide a warm, safe and dry environment for these homeowners who are unable to do the work themselves, enabling them to continue to live independently and with dignity. Friedman’s Team Members volunteer their time and skill at this once-a-year workday. All materials provided by Friedman’s are offered at a discount.

Red Cross
Disaster relief focusing on meeting people's immediate emergency disaster-caused needs. When a disaster threatens or strikes, the Red Cross provides shelter, food, and physical and mental health services to address basic human needs. Thanks to help from Team Members and customers, Friedman’s raised over $20,000 to aid in the Hurricane response of 2005.

Community Smart
A program that produces cash rebates for local schools and non-profits through purchases at local retail merchants using the Community Smart Loyalty Card and Community Smart Credit Card. Participating merchants donate a portion of their proceeds from customer purchases to the non-profit of the customer’s choice.  Through this loyalty program, local non-profits are able to raise significant funds and awareness for their cause. Friedman’s is proud to be the only home improvement center participating in this program, both in Sonoma and Mendocino Counties.

United Way of Sonoma-Mendocino-Lake
Focuses on the most important needs in the community by building partnerships, forging consensus, and leveraging resources to make a measurable impact in keeping seniors independent, developing youth, strengthening families, and resolving crisis.  Friedman’s and our Team Members contribute through payroll deductions to the annual United Way Campaign. In 2004, Friedman’s was honored with the “Best Practices Award for a Business Campaign.”

Friedman's "Special Delivery"
A quarterly drawing from entries submitted by our customers at each store location.  The winning 501(c)3 non-profits each receive a $500 check and free advertising space in a local publication to promote their organization.

FFA & 4-H
Friedman’s supports youth of the FFA and 4-H every year at both the Sonoma County Fair and Mendocino County Fair.  Friedman’s purchases lambs raised by local youth to support the growth of the agricultural community. The funds raised by the youth go to pay for their education, and the meat is donated by Friedman’s to the Redwood Empire Food Bank and Plowshares of Ukiah.

Supports social interaction of the elderly in Ukiah. Friedman’s donated new windows to upgrade the appearance of Bartlett Hall. In addition, Friedman’s donates discontinued product to the Senior Center for them to sell in their thrift store.

Thanksgiving Donations
Each Thanksgiving, Friedman’s donates a minimum of 20 turkeys to each of the following recipients: Plowshares of Ukiah, Ukiah Senior Center, Redwood Empire Food Bank, and the Vintage House of Sonoma.

Through in-kind donations, Friedman’s donates merchandise to local non-profits for their own projects or for raffle and auction items to help raise funds.  Friedman’s is dedicated to the communities in which we live and work.
