The history of the Christmas light bulb began with a tree. In 1880, John Hofert delivered a wagonload of Spruce trees to the city of St. Paul, Minnesota. As the evergreen popularity grew as a holiday symbol, more and more of these fragrant trees began to be cut down and displayed in homes. Throughout the United States and Canada, firs, spruces, and pines spread the joy of the season.
As the tree’s acceptance grew, so did the desire to decorate it. The J. Hofert Company expanded their business into importing Christmas lights. Finding high quality lights from countries including Japan, China, Korea, and Vietnam, the Hofert Company found another way to brighten people’s holidays! With brightly colored strands of lights adorning trees, you could not ignore the magic and twinkle of the season.
From those simple beginnings, the J. Hofert Company grew into the nation’s largest distributor of Christmas lights. With a long history and a nod to traditions, they work hard to make sure your home is brightly lit all holiday season.
